Stüssy was founded in the late 1980s by Shawn Stussy in Laguna Beach, California. In the beginning, Shawn tagged his last name on handmade surfboards. A little later, he started using the logo on T-shirts, trousers, and caps, selling them out of his car. A few years later, Frank Sinatra Jr. joined as a partner. Together, they opened a boutique in SoHo, New York, and expanded into Europe. Stussy's roots lie in surfing and the typical Californian lifestyle. The latter, of course, also includes subcultures like skateboarding, as well as the hip hop, punk, and sneaker scenes. Then as now, Stüssy is sold worldwide only in selected shops and designer boutiques.
